Beautiful Creatures Live

For me, the best thing about this PHENOMENAL production was watching Luca’s reaction the entire way through. As feverish as the poor guy was half way through the show, I have NEVER seen him so completely and utterly in awe of something. He literally sat, slack-jawed and amazed by the beautiful creatures that came onto the stage during the show.

He applauded excitedly at the end of each “act” and happily shouted out “HIPPO!” or “RHINO!” when each character appeared.

The story itself is beautiful: everyone is different, but beautiful in his or her own way. I love that. Imvubu the Happiest Hippo seems to have no “mojo” at the start, but with the help of his jungle friends he is soon “boom boom boom-ing” to the left and right, wagging his tail in the sunlight 🙂

Each character is brilliantly played (I have NEVER seen such enormous smiles, particularly on the prancing zebra trio) and the songs and music are not only adorable and easy to sing along to (can’t get the Hadeda song out of my head!) but also filled with meaning and moral. Georgina the Gentlest Giraffe was by far my favourite character and there is no doubt in my mind that Luca’s favourite just happened to be Lucas the Lazy Lion 🙂

Everyone with kids should make a plan to see this fantastic show. At only R75 a ticket, I think that Luca, Dave and I may go a couple of times!

*Sorry for the crappy quality of the pictures – we WERE allowed to take them but weren’t allowed to use a flash! To get the REAL feel of how totally amazing it was, go see it for yourself! 🙂

  1. I’ve been toying with the idea of taking Ava but was concerned that she may be a bit young and wouldn’t sit still for that long.
    How long was the show?
    It looks fab!

    • Hey Sharon
It was an hour – I didn’t see ONE child get bored/restless and there were loads of them there younger than two. They all sang along, clapped, danced and had a BALL! I would highly recommend you take her. Even if she does get bored and you have to leave, its not the end of the world!

  2. Love your ‘review’ Nicki.

Sharon the time flew by…Emma and Luca sat absolutely mesmerized and I didn’t see one other kiddie there getting irritated or bored

It seems like they’ve taken their audience’s attention span into account and timed the show just perfectly
