It’s all gone, but I couldn’t be happier :) #SnipSnap #Giveaway

Today was the final step from little toddler hair: soft wispy and long … to “big boy”: short back & sides. But I was adamant that I didn’t want Luca to have SHORT short hair. And boy, oh boy, did the lovely ladies at Snip Snap get it right 🙂

Luca sat, glued to the mini-DVD screen, watching Finding Nemo as Brenda worked her magic on his gorgeous golden locks. I don’t have a “before” picture, but you all know what Luca looked like with his longer hair.

At the end, I gasped. My toddler was gone. But is his place was a BEAUTIFUL little boy. Here is our experience at Snip Snap, in the best way possible … pictures!

Dave and I both LOVE how its first proper hair cut turned out … SO glad that we have found Snip Snap!

And now for the best part! If you’d like to win a children’s hair cut AND a blow-dry for yourself, you need to:

  • LIKE the Snip Snap Facebook page
  • Pop a comment and a link to this blog post on the Snip Snap Facebook wall, along with a comment here to let me know that you’ve done all of this
  • Tweets linking to this post (@Nicki_Dadic and with #SnipSnapGiveaway) will earn you an extra entry

I’ll draw the winner next Wednesday.

Snap to it then!

Snip Snap!

There’s a new gem just off the Parkhurst strip … Snip Snap!

Owned and run by the lovely Debbie and Sarah, Snip Snap opened this evening, with bubbles and cupcakes. My favourite! It’s a gorgeous little shop just off the end of 4th Avenue in Parkhurst and it promises to keep your child entertained during hair cuts with their arcade chairs, magnetic wall strips and Scrabble letters. There’s also a shop, with  cute hair accessories for girls, pirate back-packs for the boys and handmade canvas and felt name plates for moms to covet buy for their little one’s bedroom door.

If the warmth of the owners and gorgeously decorated salon are anything to go by, Snip Snap is going to be a raging success.

Luca and I will be back at Snip Snap next Tuesday to be one of their first clients! Will report back on our experience then!

In the mean time, you can make an appointment by calling Debbie on 079 278 6788, drop her an email at snipsnaphair@gmail.com or click on the Snip Snap logo below to go straight to their Facebook page!

Same Same

Just in case there was ever any doubt that these two were brothers (or their father’s sons), take a look at these…

Luca and I, circa December 2009:

Mika and I, yesterday:

The likeness is uncanny!

During the *hard* first few weeks of Mika’s life, I would often look down at him in a state of delirium and think, “Is this Luca? Have I slipped into a time warp?”

Thanks for the pics Cilla!

Some Luca-isms

For those of you who haven’t met Luca in person, you won’t know that he has a slight speech impediment, if you can call it that. He swaps a the hard “c” sound for a “t”. Well, he doesn’t swap it, per se, he can’t actually make a hard “c” sound.

So, his name is “Luta”, his brother is “Mita” and he calls the cat “Titty”. Yes, Titty.

Becks, aka "Titty"

Luca is a very logical and straightforward child. Calls a spade a spade. When playing games with his bath toys, he likes to introduce each character to the next, followed by a brief discussion around what they are all doing. Which is usually “going shops to buy nanas”. When you ask him what the car’s name is, he says (in a very matter of fact manner), “Tar!” (car), or “Fishy”. Like, DUH? Why would a car be called anything but “Car” or a fish be called anything other than “Fish”?

Red Train and Green Train (DUH!)

Despite this very simple approach to naming, Luca has one hell of an imagination and LOVES to play in his room with his Lego, trains, trucks and puzzles. He often sits for ages on his own, and we hear him chatting away and making up little scenarios. He does however, LOVE having someone with him in his room. Particularly new house guests or visitors. In fact, I guarantee that, should you come round to see us, Luca will (after sussing you out as potential play mate material) tell ask you to “Come play in my room!”

Bed and bath time with Luca, are pretty schizophrenic. One week he will be in a perfect routine of dinner, bath, half an hour of “Beebies” and then right off to bed without the slightest of hesitation. The next week he appears to dislike bath time more than the prospect of being fed nothing but Brussel sprouts for an entire month, and will scream blue murder until I eventually give up on bathing him all together. Then the next week, he’ll be BEGGING to get into the bath so he can “be a whale”. Go figure.

Being a whale ... in the pool.

Back to the slight speech impediment … Luca also struggles with “g” and “v”, occasionally swaps “b” for “d” and “th” becomes “fl”. So golf = bolf, video = bideo, jungle = jundle, thunder = flunder, bread = dread and so on. While we were on holiday, Luca came screaming into the lounge, searching for his “flip-flabs”. “Your WHAT?” I asked him, over and over again, while he repeatedly and increasingly frustratedly told me “MY FLIP-FLABS!” I gave up and ignored distracted him. Unimpressed, he gave me THE LOOK and stomped out of the room. A while later, he ran back in, waving his mini-putter and yelled, “LOOK MOMMY! MY FLIP-FLAB!”

“My bolf-tlab, ya!”

Wondering how much longer I’ll need to serve as a translator for my super-smart-but-not-so-eloquent-child 😉

Loves his "bolf-tlabs" ...

Luca says “Ya”, not “Yes”, “HUH?!” instead of “Pardon?” and has NO idea, unless prompted, that the magic word is PLEASE. But he’s an INCREDIBLY sensitive, generous and caring child, who takes time to think about what he wants to do and is very sure of himself. I cannot believe that in a few short months, my quirky, GORGEOUS and lovable little boy will be turning THREE!

Brothers on the big boy bed ...

He’s fast asleep in his big boy bed right now … hopefully he WON’T pull another 3am walk-around-the-house move … I’ve watched WAY too many scary movies with creepy sleepwalking kids!

Sleep tight!

Coming up for air …

It’s no secret that the last couple of weeks have been … hard. I haven’t been sleeping well. Ever. I haven’t really felt happy, just okay. I’ve been uptight, ratty, difficult to talk to without tears flowing and more or less completely without humour.

Anyone who follows me on Twitter will know about “Beautygate”, about Mika having an awful ear infection and about Luca being dubbed “Sir Whine-a-lot”, which all-in-all has led to me being torn in twenty different directions, feeling guilty about EVERYTHING and the general vibe in our home being pretty much CRAP.

Thankfully, I believe something’s just happened to remedy that. I won’t say right now what it is, but when I do, you’ll read about it on Tanya‘s new website, Rattle & Mum. Tanya asked me to write a guest post (on a topic of my choice) for the site and quite frankly, it couldn’t have come at a better time. Watch this space! I promise I won’t keep you waiting too long 🙂

Too keep you happy until then, here are some pictures of Luca, Bella and Georgina from this past weekend, enjoying the summer sun and the Ioannoy’s beautiful blue pool! So proud of Luca for becoming so comfortable in the water! Pics taken with Dave’s new iPhone 4S … of which I am INSANELY jealous, if only for the phenomenal 8MP camera!

The flight was painless.

The house is AMAZING.

The weather is outstanding.

The wine is delicious.

The baby is sleeeeeeping.

It’s all going pretty darn perfectly.

Luca is adjusting to having a little friend around 24/7. They both only went to bed at around 11 last night. Both in their parents’ beds. But Mika didn’t wake Luca. Luca did wake at 4:45 (it was sunrise AT THAT TIME) and the day got started a lot earlier than we expected it to, but it couldn’t be better.

Nap time x
